Draft LEP

LEP ? Means Local Environment Plan - it governs what and where anything can be built in Randwick City.  Currently, Randwick Council is updating the LEP, following a State Government Requirement to follow a standard template.

As part of this, Randwick Council issued a series of 6 'discussion papers' (see separate webpage), which was an 'added extra', they could have proceed direct to putting a draft LEP for public comment.  So that's good.  Well mostly, trying to get change to reverse what some have called a 'pro-development' agenda of Council is very difficult.  By going through this 'discussion paper' process gives legitimacy to Council's actions, without changing anything of consequence.

BUT we have had some wins.  And we'll keep trying.

So where are we up to?  Councillors resolved to apply to the Dept of Planning to put a draft LEP on exhibition for public comment.  We expect this exhibution period to be sometime in Feb or  March 2012.

There's lots of aspects in the current draft LEP that are a worry.  We'll come back to you on this.
